Molecular biology laboratory

Last update: 30 January 2014

The molecular biology laboratory is dedicated to the analysis of food samples at the molecular (DNA) level

Main activities

The main activities are the characterization of the microflora associated to tropical food products:

  • By direct analysis of the microbial ecology (by PCR-DGGE) ;
  • By identification of microbial species isolated from food products by classical microbiological methods.

Equipements are located in rooms 138 and 119, on the first floor of « la Maison de la Technologie » (Cirad Building n°16).

Main Equipments

  • Chemical safety cabinet dedicated to nucleic acid extraction
  • Microvolume UV spectrophotometer (BioSpec-nano, Shimadzu), for nucleic acid quantitation
  • 3 Thermocyclers (2 Biorad, 1 Bioer) for PCR amplification
  • 1 Thermocycler (Stratagene Mx3005p) for real time PCR
  • 3 Systems (Mupid) for agarose gel electrophoresis
  • 2 Systems (DCode, Biorad) for Denaturing Gradient Gel Electrophoresis (DGGE)
